Autumn 1

All volcanic eruptions are equal: Support or Challenge?

Children will gain knowledge and understanding of the features of a volcano and how they are formed.

The children will research a volcano within the world and create a model using an armature.

Children will observe different reversible and irreversible reactions and use this knowledge to simulate an eruption for their model volcano.

Project outcomes:

• Design & make a working model of a volcano
• Present investigations showing works

Autumn 2

Technology 

How have Ancient Egyptians impacted on how we live today?

Children will make a mechanical device which will move water, or a heavy load inspired by the Ancient Egyptians.

Spring 1

Engineering 

Design and construct a product which allows you to look over/around something without moving

Spring 2

Art

Create Greek inspired clay pots constructed to represent one of the areas of Ancient Greek achievement.

Summer 1

Science 

Children will design and bake their own cakes, adapting a basic recipe to use ingredients of their choice

Summer 2

Performance Art 

A recording of children performing a piece of music inspired by the festival Día de los Muertos- Central American Day of the Dead.

An art gallery honouring each child’s culture and ancestors inspired by Central American artists/artwork.
