GLF Schools was founded in 2012 in order to enable the federation of Glyn School (an academy in 2011) and Danetree Junior School. Together, we began our journey to become a MAT of more than 1000 talented staff working with over 10,000 children in 40 schools across 5 regions in southern England.

Autumn 1

What makes the best coat?

Children will design and make a coat for a travelling teddy bear who will be visiting an area of the world.

The children will learn about the continents and oceans of the world and will explore which of these areas have hot or cold climates.

Children investigate the properties of materials and use these findings to inform their design choices for a coat based on the climate the bear is going to.

Children will develop their templating and sewing skills to enable them to make a functional product.

Technology

What was the impact of the Great Fire of London on the structures in modern day London?

  • Children to make model wooden houses based on modern day London and London in 1666. out of wood.
  • Comparisons of the structures from modern-day vs 1666.
  • A presentation on the impact the Great Fire of London has had on London today.
Spring 1

Engineering 

How did the development of flight impact the life of individuals in the UK?

  • Develop and improve a flying machine using the engineering process.
  • Create an accurate model of a historical development in aviation.

Art

Produce artwork in the style of Pop Art with a British focus

Summer 1

Science

Create a natural history programme, inspired by Sir David Attenborough, talking about an animal, their lifecycle, and the habitat they live in.

Summer 2

Performance Arts

A performance, a report and a dish inspired by the culture and celebrations of Rio de Janeiro.
