What is a Mystery Reader?

At Lime Tree Primary School we strive to foster a love of reading both in school and at home. To inspire children further we have implemented a weekly ‘Mystery Read.’

We invite a parent/ grandparent or family member to come into their child’s class to read their favourite story to their class. Our aim is to show children that adults love reading too and that we all have our own favourite children’s book that we enjoyed when growing up. We also have many children’s books in our school library that you may even like to use. We continue to express the necessity to keep this a secret (even from your own child) to gain the full impact and excitment of the mystery reader.

The mystery read happens at 2:45-3:00 every Thursday afternoon. During this time the mystery reader will introduce themselves,  read their favourite children’s story and answer any questions the children have about the story.

If you wish to sign up to be a mystery reader please call or email the school office to book a date or alternatively speak to your child’s class teacher.
